The League of Movable Type has released Junction, a beautiful sans serif typeface with an old-style serif look to it. Junction is an OpenType font with upper and lower case letters, punctuation and numbers; and is free to use for personal and commercial projects.

Another great grungy font from dafont.com. LL Cooper offers upper and lowercase characters as well as numbers and a reasonable amount of punctuation characters.

Free tire tracks textures

Bittbox has another great texture set available free for download and use. Tire Tracks includes 5 high-res textures of muddy tire tracks.

Free Smoke brushes for Photoshop users

A while back I told you about some free smoke textures you could download and use in your Photoshop designs. But if those textures didn't quite fit your needs, perhaps you would be better off creating your own texture backgrounds.

QBrushes has an awesome set of 21 free smoke brushes for use in Photoshop. Using them on top of color backgrounds and messing with the layer settings can yield some pretty cool results!

SixRevisions has a really nice set of grungy wall textures you can use in your personal or commercial design work free of charge. You can download each texture image individually from Flickr.

Felip Darius has released an update to his popular Helwoodica font. Helwoodica 2.0 is based on the appearance of Helvetica engraved on wood blocks. Another great grunge font, available for free.

Search for images by color

idée inc. has a fantastic image-search tool that looks through over 10 million Creative Commons images on Flickr based on the color of your choosing.

You simply click the color palette on the page to select up to 10 colors at a time and the site displays a wall of image thumbnails which use a predominant amount of the color(s) you chose. While clicking a single color yields impressive results, clicking a few more colors displays a new set of thumbnails (extremely quickly) with remarkable results! I find this site to be incredibly useful, and worthy of bookmarking.
