Converting a color from CMYK to RGB

It isn't often, but every once in a while you find yourself having to convert a color from CMYK to RGB. Most likely, this is a client giving you their CMYK colors to use in a Web layout, or similar situation.

While this process is rarely successful because you lose color info when doing so, this color conversion tool will help you get the most accurate color conversion possible.

Is my site down, or is it just me?

That's a question I see a lot in Web forums all over the place. People constantly asking if XYZ site is down for everyone, or just them. As a Webmaster, seeing an error message when trying to load your site strikes fear and anxiety into your heart.

Thankfully, DownForEveryoneOrJustMe has the solution to put your heart at ease — or at least tell you that you've got a problem to deal with.

You simply type the Web address you wish to check into the entry box:

Then it'll tell you if the site is truly down or not:

I've used this a few times over the last few months and found it very handy.

20 great free online file storage services

Free online file sharing

Please Digg this if you find it useful.

A few years ago, I posted a long list of free online file sharing services. If you haven't used a sharing service to transport large files from one computer/location to another, you're missing out. It's a whole lot cheaper, and most times, faster than burning CDs or lugging around an external hard drive. It's also a little more secure than just tossing your document onto a "who knows how reliable" USB keydrive.

Rather than post an exhaustive list of services, I decided this time to focus on 20 of the better services I've come across. I have tried every one on this list and found the experience satisfactory to excellent.

Another cool font site

I've seen a lot of "free font" articles here at The Graphic Mac, so I thought I would share one I recently found.

FontCubes has a ton of really cool fonts for download. What I like about the site is that it's easily navigated and has a clean layout. You can enter customized text to preview the fonts, and the download links are easily recognized.

Many of the fonts can be found elsewhere, but I really like the layout of FontCubes, and the selection is great.

Free fonts from Billy Argel

res_fonts-argel.jpg

I love fonts. In particular, I love FREE fonts. So when I come across a great font designer, I'm more than happy to share the love.

Billy Argel has some fantastic grunge-style fonts (like the one you see in the graphic above) available for download at his site, as well as some links to other places you can find more of his font work.

Many free fonts you find on the Web are not full character set fonts. Some of the ones I tested were missing basic things like punctuation marks, etc. But keep in mind that these don't cost you anything, and you probably shouldn't be using a grungy-looking font like this in a paragraph anyway!

Thanks to Billy for making these gems freely available. And by the way, great illustration work on your site!

Twin Fonts - free categorized fonts

Twin Fonts
When you come across a project that calls for something a little more "out there" than the standard Adobe fonts in your collection, look no further than Twin Fonts.

Twin Fonts offers free downloadable fonts categorized for easy browsing. While many of these fonts are probably not useful for 95% of your work, you may come across a gem or two, so it's worth the time to browse through them.

One thing I really like about Twin Fonts is that the site offers a user-editable text preview of each font, as well as the ability to change the color of the font preview, making it easy to see what you text will look like in the selected font.
