Quicky check your hard drive’s free space

Quick Look storage

Quick Look is more than just image previews

The Quick Look feature in Mac OS X Lion is useful for previewing images, text files and websites. But you can also use it to quickly check the free space remaining on your hard drive.

Simply click on the Mac HD icon on the Desktop or in a Finder window and hit the spacebar.

Another quick way to check your free space is to turn on the Status Bar in Finder windows by visiting View>Show Status Bar (Command + /) and click on the Mac HD icon in the Finder window. The Status Bar at the bottom of the Finder window will display your free space.

Cnet writer shows his ass with latest anti-Apple blogs article

Apple-centric blogs play an important role in disseminating information… While not all that surprising, the FUD factor can get pretty hot and heavy sometimes. You know, that tendency to try to discredit any major threats to Apple’s dominance. Namely, Android.

This guy has his head so far up his ass that it’s hard to even laugh it off. He manages to completely ignore reality, and do it with a straight face – unless of course this is April 1st and I lost all track of time.

Easily create guides at any angle in Adobe Illustrator

Rotate Guides in IllustratorMost people are aware that you can pull a horizontal or vertical guide out of the document ruler in Adobe Illustrator. But I suspect many users are unaware that you can then rotate that guide to any angle you wish.

Drag a guide out from the ruler. Now make sure your guides aren’t locked by unticking Lock Guides in the View>Guides menu. Select the guide (you can click and drag over the guide to easily select it) so it is active. Now select the Rotate tool (or simply hit the R key) and rotate the guide to your desired angle. Once you’re finished, you can re-lock the guide to keep from accidentally moving it.

iPhones no longer appeal to youth

“What we see is that youth are pretty much fed up with iPhones. Everyone has the iPhone,” he said. “Also, many are not happy with the complexity of Android and the lack of security. So we do increasing see that the youth that wants to be on the cutting edge and try something new are turning to the Windows Phone platform.” – Niels Munksgaard, Director of Sales for Nokia

Riiiiight. These crazy kids today… they don’t want ANYTHING that some other kid has, and security is definitely “top-of-mind” when the average 15 year old goes with mom or dad to pick out a new smartphone.

Announcing The Graphic Mac 3.0: New look and more updates

It’s been long overdue, so I’m happy to announce the latest update to The Graphic Mac. It’s been about a year since this site had any major updates to the look and feel, and I hope you find the new version much easier to read and navigate.

My goal was to de-clutter the entire site, making it easier for you to read, and for me to maintain. Gone are a few features that didn’t get used much, such as the community links section in the sidebar. I’ve also disabled comments on posts.

Post iconsThe major change, beyond the appearance, are the addition of “Post-Types.” Next to each post headline you’ll find a small icon that indicates what type of post it is. There are several different types available, including picture, link and standard posts (as seen in the image at the right), as well as audio and video.

For the most part, you’ll find standard post icons (like the one for this article), and link icons. Link posts are simply links to other sites, which you access by clicking the title of the post right from the homepage.

Issues: Link post headlines lead to the desired URL only when clicked directly from the homepage. For some reason, when you click the headline from an individual post page, they don’t take you to the link – instead they just refresh the page. I’m working on finding a solution.

Because the new Post Types are easier to work with, it is my goal to post content more often.

To make finding similar posts easier, a search box is available in the sidebar and the footer, as well as a tag cloud in the footer. Of course, you can always just click a topic link in the sidebar.

I hope you like the new look of The Graphic Mac, and continue to visit the site daily. If you have any feedback, you can send me an email.

Thanks to everyone who offered support, sent me software announcements and article ideas, clicked an ad in the sidebar or footer, or simply sent an email to say thanks for the site. You guys are the reason this site exists!
